Going Batty in Schools

15 Schools across the North West region including Derry, Strabane, Limavady and Ballykelly took part in a special workshop called ‘Bats a Fact’ throughout the months of February and March 2016.

The workshop began with a talk all about bats of the world, why they are important and the myths that surround them. Pupils then took part in some batty themed interactive games to investigate what bats eat and how they hunt for their prey. Everyone was then introduced to a rescued Leisler’s bat who came into our care in January this year. To finish the session, pupils made their own bat mask and took part in a batty quiz.

All equipment and education materials were purchased thanks to funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and NIEA Challenge Fund
