The Car Based Monitoring Survey is one of the longest continuous bat monitoring programmes in Ireland.

The survey involves driving a predetermined route and slowing down at predetermined areas to collect bat calls from a bat detector out of your car window.

• Surveys take place in July and August.
• You get training about how to set up the equipment and submit the data.
• You get information about what you found on your survey.
• This survey is helping identify how bats are impacted by climate change.
• You also get to see out nocturnal animals in ways you never have before.
• If you are interested you can volunteer your time on the Bat Conservation Ireland website.
